Vocabulary, Email, and Blog Posts

Three notes to all classes:

1. Vocabulary must accumulate at the rate of five new words per week. These words must be in the vocabulary section of your journal each Friday BEFORE class. This means that if you keep them on your computer, they must be printed and in your journal before class begins. You cannot print during class, and you cannot turn vocabulary in late. I will not check words every Friday. Sometimes I will check words on a day other than Friday. It is your responsibility to have your vocabulary words with you in class EVERY DAY. In order to receive credit, you must have numbered them, and they must appear like this example: 1. Word/Where You Read or Heard it (Be specific)/Definition. If you are reading on a regular basis, you should easily come across five words you don't know each week. If you do not, it is your responsibility to get creative and find words. DO NOT just open up a dictionary or go to a vocabulary site and write down the first five words you see. Also, copying words from your classmates is considered a violation of the honor code. Come see me if you have questions.

2. Now that we have finished the first two weeks of school, sloppy emails will no longer be excused. This means that ALL emails you send to me must: a) Have a subject in the subject line b) Contain a salutation c) Contain your name at the end d) Be spellchecked and be free of obvious errors e) Be polite. Emails that don't follow these guidelines will not be answered. If I do not respond to an email you send me, you can assume that it did not meet these guidelines.

3. If I ask you to post on the blog, consider it a real assignment. If I ask you for a paragraph, that means a real paragraph (TS, CD, CM, T, and CS). Punctuate properly and use your spellcheck. You must also sign your name with your class block letter. You may want to write your paragraph in Microsoft Word, and then post it in the comments section. This will prevent accidental deletions.

Please indicate that you have read this post by posting the word AGREED as a comment along with your name and class block number.

Thank you,
Ms. Keene
